Manchester, according to Beyond the City, a report commissioned by the International Festival for Business, is expected to outperform world class cities such as Berlin and Paris for employment growth over the next five years.

What’s more, a huge amount of this growth –23,000 new jobs over the next decade – is forecasted to take place within the digital sector. This is especially astounding when you consider that Manchester’s current digital employment already stands at a staggering 50,000.

What does this all mean?

Well, clearly there are very exciting times ahead for Manchester’s bustling digital scene. With the most creative digital minds flocking to the city, there is a sense of a Silicon Valley style ‘happening’ taking place. Manchester is becoming regarded as a digital hub, not just in northern or UK terms, but globally.

Whilst it is a great time to be a part of Manchester’s digital scene, a grey cloud dampens the horizons of those basking in Manchester’s digital dawn – just how do I stand out in an ever-growing pool of talent?

In short, the answer is to upskill yourself and be more knowledgeable than the rest of the pack.

Long before the digital boom, Manchester, with its two world renowned universities, held a strong reputation for providing world class education. It still does.
